Vacancies on the Estate

Placement Opportunity - Agronomic, technical and operations trainee

Elveden is a 22,500-acre country estate, of which over 10,000 acres is farmland. We are a diverse farming business and operate on 9,500 acres of silt land. Wherever possible we invest in the latest technology and equipment to enhance and challenge our team to continually improve their skills. 

We are offering a unique opportunity for somebody looking to experience both the technical, agronomic and operations side of root vegetable and combinable crop production. 

The position will start at a practical level helping secure the combinable crop and then root vegetable harvests. The type of practical tasks experienced at this stage will depend on the level of tractor driving skills you currently possess or are able to demonstrate. There will also be opportunity to work within our pre and post-harvest technical team learning about crop quality and meeting customer specifications and expectations. 

For the next cropping year you will be able to experience field visits with our technical team and independent agronomists, plus build your understanding of the challenges faced at different crop stages. There will also be the chance to further refine your machine operation skills as we move into the second harvest.

If you are looking for a rounded experience and taste of both technical and practical crop production, and are a good communicator, keen to learn and looking to be part of a forward-thinking team, then this is the job for you. Harvest Student Opportunities in 2020

Elveden is a 22,500-acre country estate, of which over 10,000 acres is farmland. We are a diverse farming business and operate on 9,500 acres of silt land. Wherever possible we invest in the latest technology and equipment to enhance and challenge our team to continually improve their skills. 

 

Our farming business operates across 4 separate geographic areas, and we are looking for summer students on three of those sites. We have vacancies for students in Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Yorkshire. We are seeking applicants who are currently studying Agriculture at any level, but with a focus on arable, root vegetable or technical. 

 

You will be given exposure to various aspects of our business gaining hands on experience from field operations to the loading and transporting of produce for grading and storage.

 

This is a varied role, students displaying a real aptitude, passion and enthusiasm, may be given the opportunity to receive further training on more specialised equipment.

 

We are looking for applicants with a full driving licence, team player and ability to work in with others. During the height of the season you will need to be adaptable and flexible with regards to your working hours to include weekends.

 

Commencing mid-July through to September/October depending on educational

commitments. This will give you invaluable experience and an insight in to working on a

commercial farm enabling you to develop key practical skills and knowledge.

 

Basic pay is £8.20per hour up to 40hours with overtime being paid at time and a quarter.

Accommodation is available at a nominal fee.

Hedging Nursery Production Assistant

Elveden Instant Hedges have been growing mature instant hedge and screening since the late 1990s based at the Estate’s field nurseries in Suffolk.  During that time, our dedicated nursery team have perfected the premium instant hedge and screening product which we now offer in fourteen different species or mix of species, delivering a range of hedges to suit every garden or development need.

We are looking for someone with commercial horticultural experience to join our experienced team here on the Elveden Estate.  You would report to our Nursery Manager.

Requirements:

  • Well motivated, hardworking and prepared to work in all weathers

  • Experienced in pesticide application – (PA1 and PA6 are minimum requirements)

  • A good understanding of horticulture and plant care

  • A basic understanding of horticultural irrigation systems

  • A clean driving licence

  • Experience working with tractors and telehandlers advantageous but not essential

 

Key duties:

  • Nursery maintenance

  • Planting and maintaining our hedging

  • Pesticide and fertilizer applications

  • Lifting and loading hedges for delivery

This is a full-time permanent position working 40 hours per week, predominantly Monday to Friday. However, due to the nature of the business you will need to be flexible and able to work weekends and bank holiday as required. We offer an attractive package with remuneration in line with experience.

Commercial Manager

Elveden Instant Hedge have been growing mature instant hedge and screening since the late 1990s based at the Estate’s field nurseries in Suffolk.  During that time, our dedicated nursery team have perfected the premium instant hedge and screening product which we now offer in fourteen different varieties, delivering a range of hedges to suit every garden or development need.

We sell our product through a number of distributors, direct to the trade and to retail customers.  As a result of significant growth in recent years we are now looking to build on that further with the introduction of a Commercial Manager who will have the necessary experience and network of contacts to grow our business further.

Requirements:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in the landscaping and/or horticultural sectors

  • A strong understanding of horticultural markets and their drivers

  • Well regarded within the industry and a strong network of contacts

  • Able to work as part of a diverse team but with the drive to succeed on your own initiative

  • Commercially aware, able to prepare budgets, forecasts and business cases

 

Key duties:

  • Maintain existing and develop new strategic relationships with our customer base

  • Identify new areas of sales and new applications for our product

  • Increase our visibility in the marketplace

  • Develop our marketing strategy

  • Work with our nursery team to reduce cost and to develop alternative offerings

The role will require extensive travel mainly within the UK.  We offer an attractive package with remuneration in line with experience, a market leading pension and a company vehicle.

Front of House

Kitchen Porter

Exceptionally high standard of work required for this very busy country Inn, keen attention to detail is a must. This is a very diverse position that is integral to the running of the business. You will be working as part of the kitchen team. Dedication to be the best you can be is a fundamental requirement of this position.

  • Hours 30-40, 5 days per week

  • Ensure basic cleaning jobs are carried out as quickly as possible

  • Collect and wash up pots and pans

  • Clean food preparation areas and equipment, in addition to crockery and cutlery

  • Unload food and equipment deliveries

  • Keep the storeroom organised

  • Keep work surfaces, walls and floors clean and sanitised
