TASTES OF ANGLIA TRADING CHANGES OWNERSHIP
Elveden Farms Ltd has today acquired the local food distribution service Tastes Of Anglia (TOA) Trading.
Elveden already operates a successful local food distribution service known as Elveden Food Hub, serving two multiple retailers and smaller customers throughout East Anglia. Through this acquisition, a more comprehensive service will result for both supermarkets and independent retailers throughout the entire region.
Tastes of Anglia’s membership funded regional food group, set up to promote East Anglian food, will become a separate enterprise and its operation is not impacted by this change to (TOA) trading.
“Joining these two businesses will enable us to deliver a much more efficient and cost effective sales and distribution solution across East Anglia, while allowing the Tastes of Anglia food group to focus on promoting the region’s excellent food offering throughout the UK,“ said Natasha Card, manager of Elveden Food Hub.
“For retailers in the region, this opens up a wealth of opportunities to understand the full range of local food on offer and simplifies supply, while for local food producers they will have access to an improved distribution network and a wider range of retailers from just one hub.”

Elveden Farms Joins Network of LEAF Demonstration Farms
Elveden Farms has become the latest farm to join LEAF’s nationwide network of LEAF Demonstration Farms. It joins over 40 other farms across the country set up to showcase the very best of sustainable farming practices.
Based in East Anglia, on the Norfolk-Suffolk border, Elveden Farms is one of the largest single farm units in lowland Britain, extending to 9,100 hectares, specialising in the production of vegetables, including potatoes, onions, carrots and parsnips. It also grows a variety of cereals including barley and wheat and is the largest producer of rye in the UK. The farm is LEAF Marque certified, which means it is independently audited to ensure it meets stringent sustainable farming standards.
The sustainable farming principles of Integrated Farm Management (IFM) underpin Elveden’s whole business approach. As part of its commitment to the environment, 30 per cent of the estate is dedicated to conservation, hosting rare plants and a number of prominent bird species. Elveden is also proud to host a significant proportion of the UK’s Stone Curlew breeding pairs.
As a LEAF Demonstration Farm, Elveden will be a ‘living classroom’ – hosting visits to other farmers interested in farming sustainably. It will also welcome visits from a wide range of community groups, conservation organisations and local schools, so they can see for themselves how their food is produced and what farmers are doing to care for the environment.
Speaking at the launch, Andrew Francis, Senior Farms Manager of Elveden Farms said: “We already have great links with the local community through our farm shop, open days and restaurant. It is a huge honour to be launched as a LEAF Demonstration Farm. Not only does it recognise all our work in combining commercial farming with environmental care, but it will mean that we can reach out to new audiences. More than simply telling people about our sustainable farming approach, they can see for themselves how it works in practice.”
Caroline Drummond, Chief Executive of LEAF added: “LEAF’s Demonstration Farm Network plays a hugely vital role in sharing best practice amongst farmers as well as being a great way to help educate the public about the work that farmers do to care for the environment, whilst producing their food. Elveden Farms is a fantastic example of sustainable farming in action and represents what Integrated Farm Management is all about. We are delighted to welcome Elveden Farms as a LEAF Demonstration Farm and look forward to working together with them to engage and inspire other farmers as well as the wider public.”
The launch of Elveden Farms as a LEAF Demonstration Farm took place on Wednesday 16 October. Attending the launch was the Earl of Iveagh, Stephen Fell, LEAF Chairman, Andrew Nottage, East of England LEAF Regional Chairman and special guest, Galton Blackiston, Chef de Patron and Owner of Morston Hall, a Michelin star restaurant based nearby which Elveden supplies.
The launch was kindly sponsored by Anglia Farmers, Adams and Howling, Crisp Malting Group and McCain.

Big Onion food and Music Festival another success!
Firstly a big thank-you to everyone that attended The Big Onion!
The day started with the Walled Garden open to the public from 10am with an influx of around 1800 people throughout the day’s proceedings! Over 50 local producers came along to set up and sell their wonderful products in the first walled garden. The second was full of activities for the children to get involved with, including mini-tractors as well at the real thing and a combine harvester! Free donkey rides proved to be a great experience for the children to enjoy themselves, or for a quieter moment The Children’s Centre from Mildenhall was available to provide entertainment through games and activities, including vegetable art!
The tractor and trailer tours around the Estate were a very popular attraction with full rides each time! The tour allowed people to see what goes on in the workings of the farm and ask any questions about the farm and conservation on the Estate with the farm manager, Andrew Francis.
Throughout the day, local chefs in the likes of Scott Taylor, Richard Bainbridge, Matt Ransom, Chris Lee and Peter McBurnie cooked up some tasty dishes on the demonstration stage drawing large crowds to see where the wonderful smells were coming from. Elveden’s own chef Peter, was available for people to ask any cookery questions or even about his time at Claridges and with the Royal family. Alongside him at the Elveden grandstand, keen gardener, Howie, was stringing and selling onions at £5 each for St. Nicholas Hospice and managed to raise a total of £180!
What goes great with good food? Great music! Six acts joined us on the day including Kirsten Powell, The Luck, Madison, Vixxzi, Adrian Duffy and Killamonjambo. Each warmly received and managed to lift the spirits of the crowd when the rain came along.
A Gallery of the day can be found on the Big Onion website by clicking here.
If you attended the day, please let us know what you thought by filing in the survey and contact form here, and you could be in with a chance of winning a 6ft Nordic Christmas tree!

Elveden Dog Day Raises Over £8,500 for Alzheimer's Society
Firstly a big thank you to everyone that attended our Dog Day!
We had over 1300 people attend the event, held in our Walled Garden. 17 classes took place, including both novelty classes such as "Handsomest Dog" and "Most Appealing Eyes" plus pedigree classes judged by Pamela Joyce. A competition for "Best Biscuit Catcher", kindly sponsored by Pooch's Biscuits gave every dog a chance to win.
Displays were on offer from On The Scent Dog Agility, The Suffolk Hunt, Frank Walker's Gun Dogs and the Suffolk Gun Dogs. Meanwhile a Gun Dog Scurry led by David Tomlinson, columnist for the Shooting Times, a Dog Agility Arena by On The Scent Dog Training and a "Dog Dash" ensured every dog has its' day!
The Dog Day was the idea of Melanie Shuttler, PA to Lord Iveagh of the Elveden Estate whose mother Bridget lived with Alzheimer's for a number of years, and the Society provided great support.
A cup in Bridget's name, kindly donated by William Jarvis, Bridget's nephew and a successful trainer at Newmarket, was awarded for the "Best In Show". The cup went to a Collie called Rain, owned by Kevin Tinsley, who had won the "Prettiest Bitch" class. The Ranchstar Trophy for the best Pedigree went to Layla, a Rhodesian Ridgeback, who also won Best Pupp. Layla is owned by Niki Emmerson.
Melanie says, "I am grateful for the public's continued support at the third Elveden Dog Day which took place in the Courtyard Walled Garden. The money raised will help to support local people with dementia and their families."
The day was widely supported by many local businesses including; Pets at Home of Newmarket and Thetford, RAF Mildenhall and Lakenheath, Think Audio Visual LTD, Swayne's Veterinary Practice and Tattersalls.
